Form follows function" is an aphorism by modernist architect Louts Sullivan, while "Form follows environment" is the design concept for Shenzhen TV Center.I) Building environment. The building is largely surrounded by high rises. If we still design it into a tower structure, the 40, 000 sqm TV center will look very small. So we try to unify the limited volume into a giant pyramid in consideration of the layout of the site. 2) Natural environment. Shenzhen is located in a subtropical coast and enjoys good ecological environment. By means of "ecological building" techniques we design technology houses that need no illumination into a building covered in earth so that the greening space extends from the forecourt to the building itself. Together with the rooftop garden, platform green corridor, they constitute a peculiar three - dimensional greening system. 3) User’s environment. Special attention is paid to the creation of a comfortable, efficient and rational space environment for the user. 4) Recognizable environment. As a modern cultural facility, the TV center should avoid deliberate exaggeration and should naturally express the special features of the building itself and the environmental space and reflect its peculiar outlook.
