There are two new trends in today's computer technology that are attracting more and more attention. Oneis multimedia service, especially the video service. The other is mobile wireless computing. The former can be implemented efficiently on the traditional wired network, such as the accession of multimedia information,real-time broad-cast. But due to the limitation of the wireless environment, the latter hasn't been able to support the video transport efficiently. Obviously, the combination of these two technologies, video service over wireless network, may be a killer application and in turn advances both of them. This paper summarizes the challenges of this field and introduces some possible solutions.
The multicast of Streaming Media over the Internet is an important component of many current and future Internet applications. The heterogeneity and lacking of QoS guarantee make the application of this technique a challenge. In this paper, we analyze the difficulties in streaming media multicast design, survey technologies that have been proposed for it. We also discuss several congestion control and error control mechanisms. Finally we present some remained issues for further research.
We illustrate MediaCoKit,a multimedia collaborative system development toolkit,in this paper. The collaborative system, developed with MediaCoKit, has a friendly GUI and a good accessibility for users. And group awareness is supported in terms of multimedia presentation, the presentation including both video and audio media. We discuss the key issues of the toolkit such as data sharing object, multimedia components, workspace awareness and then detail its implementation.
