Other than being a means of communication, language is also a mirror reflecting cultural and social values. Sexist language implies male superiority and reflects an unequal status of genders in society. To begin with, this thesis briefly analyses the historical and social reasons which cause the sexism in English, and then displays the phenomena in two aspects with examples; finally, the thesis discusses changes and progress made in sexist English.
