By using image processing software, based on the coordinates of clear points in images and the theoretical coordinates of the points in the reference coordinate system, the coordinate relation multinomial of pre-and post-correction control points can be established by means of the digital image correction technique and the coefficient in the multinomial can be sought on the basis of the coordinates of a certain number of control points. Then the whole image can be re-sampled by correcting every image pixel according to the multinomial, and the linear and nonlinear deformations in the image can be corrected accurately. In archaeological studies, researchers can use the digital image correction technique to correct the whole or partial images of cultural relics, including buildings and stone carvings, reduce the deformations of images occurring in imaging processes to the limit of required accuracy, obtain integral orthophoto images by means of mosaic, and then carry out measurement, plan drawing, etc.
As archaeological researches are deepened day by day and relevant information and data grow constantly, a completely new problem will appear in archaeological study, i.e. how to manage and retrieve effectively, study synthetically and renew opportunely these data. The present paper discusses the application and exploration of geographical information system and technology in archaeological studies with the construction of archaeological information system in the Huanhe River valley of Anyang as an example.
