A kind of sepiolite-supported copper-based catalyst by impregnation method using Cu(NO3)2 aqueous solution is prepared. In this paper, the activity of Cu/Sep for hydrogenation of furfural to furfuryl alcohol at atmospheric pressure has been studied in a pulse type reactor. The effects of Cu content, reaction temperature, inject amount were examined. The catalysts was characterized by TPR. The result revealed that Cu/Sep demonstrated good catalytic performance. Under the experimental conditions (135 ℃, Cu loading 18.1% and normal pressure ), the conversion of furfural and selectivity of furfuryl alcohol are all 100%. The result of TPR indicated that Cu dispersion decreased with the increase of Cu load.
