English teaching and learning has become a flourish scene in a national wide scope in China: Every Chinese student in primary school, middle school and university has to learn English in different levels. However, there are still many potential problems which hiding beneath the flourish, such as English education in China lack of communication factors; insufficient of oral English teaching, outdated teaching methods, and so on.
Role-play is considered as a useful method to solve the problem of oral English teaching in universities. It's much more than a performance that learners can experience the real life in the classroom. Through its use in the pre-playing,whileplaying and post-playing stages in universities,its effects will be presented in an overall way: students can gain more communication skills in the mini society atmosphere,and the accuracy and fluency of their oral English will be improved. Although some factors may affect the effects of role-play use in oral English teaching in universities,with the better use of role-play in the future,the goal of oral English teaching will be realized.
