Schiff base-Cu(II) complex is found to be an effective catalyst for the condensation reaction of indole with aldehydes using ethanol as the solvent. The characterization of the catalysts was carried out using XRD and FT-IR.

Friedel-Crafts alkylation of indoles with nitroalkenes catalyzed by a novel Zn(II)-thiourea complex has been developed. The remarkable advantages of this reaction are mild reaction conditions, simple workup procedure, high yield of products and the use of ethanol as acceptable solvent.

A series of novel Schiff bases bearing triazole structure were synthesized and characterized by LR and NMR. Mn(OAc)2/Schiff base efficiently catalyzed Henry reaction of nitroalkanes with aldehydes to produce the corresponding products of ^-nitroalcohols, under mild conditions with high yields (up to 99%). A reaction mechanism is proposed based on the experimental results.
