幽默是一种独特的语言艺术形式,同时也是一种深刻的社会和文化现象。它不仅在语言和文化背景中扮演着重要角色,还在社会互动和多元文化交流中发挥着重要作用。本文以格莱斯的合作原则为理论框架,通过对美国情景喜剧《老友记》中的言语幽默实例的分析,详细解析剧中演员们通过违反合作原则产生幽默的过程,探讨违反合作原则在英语幽默中的作用,从而提高读者对于英语语言幽默现象及其内在规律机制的理解。该研究旨在揭示语用学在人际交往中的有效性和实用性,促进对话双方的沟通和交流,提高读者的跨文化交际能力。Humor is a unique form of linguistic art as well as a profound social and cultural phenomenon. It plays a significant role not only in language and cultural contexts, but also in social interaction and multicultural exchange. Based on Grice’s cooperative principle as the theoretical framework, this paper analyzes some examples of verbal humor in the American sitcom Friends and the process of the actors producing humor by violating the cooperative principle in detail. This paper explores the role of violating the cooperation principle in pragmatics within the context of English humor, so as to improve the readers’ understanding of the phenomenon and internal mechanisms of humor in the English language. The purpose of this study is to reveal the effectiveness and practicability of pragmatics in interpersonal communication, promote the communication and exchange between the two sides of the dialogue, and improve the readers’ intercultural communication ability.

委婉语是日常生活中常见的一种语言现象,人们使用委婉语来避免生活中尴尬或不适的场景。不同语言环境中委婉语各有不同,在情景喜剧中,委婉语可以为观众带来很强的喜剧效果,因此出现的频率较高。文章从赖斯的文本类型和目的论视角,选取经典美剧《老友记》的台词为例来分析情景喜剧中委婉语的翻译来探究中英委婉语如何翻译可为原文喜剧效果和观众服务。Euphemism is a common linguistic phenomenon in daily life, which can be used to avoid awkwardness or discomfort in different situations. Euphemisms differ across linguistic and cultural contexts. In sitcoms, euphemisms frequently appear as they enhance comedic effects for the audience. This paper analyzes the translation of euphemisms in Friends, a classic American sitcom, from the perspectives of Reiss’s text typology and Skopos Theory. By examining the translation of euphemisms in sitcom dialogues, the study explores how Chinese-English euphemism translation can preserve the original comedic effect and cater to the target audience.
